CollegefeedBuilding a social platform
Collegefeed is a social platform that makes it very easy and engaging for college grads, employers, career centers and alumni to brand, discover and interact with each other. The company was started by ex-Google / Microsoft executives and backed by Accel Partners as well as several well known angels in Silicon Valley
Value For Job Seekers: Once students and young alums upload their resume or import their LinkedIn profile, Collegefeed automatically matches them with company insiders that might be interested in connecting with them. As of early 2015, the Collegefeed network had 1000+ hiring managers, founders and recruiters looking to hire college talent.
Value For Employers: Employers just specify their talent needs and their “minimum bar” and Collegefeed starts sending them the most relevant, high quality, curated candidates to connect with.
IINCORE Value add
Collegefeed’s breakthrough USP of connecting job seekers directly with employers was an innovative idea. But, like any other start up, there were challenges to getting the product built and market ready: limited budget, technical resources, the need to build quick proof-of-concepts (POCs) to test several ideas, ever changing business requirements, and the desire to stay away from heavy upfront investments.
IINCORE’s team of hardcore technologists has years of experience in agile software development methodologies such as scrum as well as cost-effective offshore software development processes. By bringing together these capabilities we have built an organization with the ability to be a product incubator focused on serving start ups and SMBs.
To be an effective partner for Collegefeed, IINCORE fine tuned its processes and capabilities to deliver a highly agile and iterative software development model – Agile++. The team enabled Collegefeed to build quick POCs and develop the product quickly and iteratively. Key pieces of value Collegefeed saw:
- Cost Effective Scale: IINCORE provided the technology / infrastructure expertise that helped keep upfront investment low while meeting Collegefeed’s launch and business objectives. .
- Speed: Working 24/7 with a team spread across the US, Australia and India made the execution of work smoother and deliver faster.
- Startup Friendly: IINCORE’s flexible payment terms and ability to customize commercial arrangements made it easier for the company to concentrate on the product than deal with financial headaches
Churning it up – The Marathon!!!
Collegefeed was built on PHP using the Symfony framework – a highly scalable and a flexible architecture that could plugin new features quickly, thereby enabling rapid turn around time.
Being agile was key – weekly planning with the product owners and daily sync with the team helped everyone stay abreast of the priorities. This also enabled the team to deliver features under tight deadlines with very high quality using manual and automated testing built with Apache jMeter, Selenium and Behat. . Like every startup, Collegefeed went through 2 pivots and on both occasions IINCORE was able revamp the entire product within 3 weeks. IINCORE was also able to scale the resources very quickly – both add and take away developers as needed on short notice.
IINCORE builds and takes full responsibility for the product. From concept to scaling the platform to going through the full due diligence during acquisition, the team at IINCORE saw Collegefeed through it’s lifecycle from idea generation to eventual successful acquisition.
